The origin
Cross Library Services is a spin-off of the CACAO Project, funded under the eContentplus programme. The company inherited a substantial part of the software and resources developed in that context. Just to give an idea, the effort in CACAO was equivalent to about 20 person years, a number which describes quite accurately the level of refinement of software components in use by Cross Library to provide its services.
The stakeholders
The company capitalizes on the expertise of its reference stakeholders, namely CELI, Fondazione Bruno Kessler and Università di Trento . In particular:
- CELI, one of the biggest NLP companies on the European market, brings in its competence as the main development site of the CACAO project, as well a ten year experience in marketing language related solutions.
- FBK is a European center of excellence in ICT with a particular emphasis on language technologies. Part of its innovative research in the field will be optimized by Cross Library to provide even more "intelligent" services.
- UNITN is the 4th best university in Italy and the faculty of Engineering is the first. The department of Information Engineering and Computer Science will contribute with its experience in Digital Librarie and NLP technologies.
